What to bring to a Christmas tree farm

Updated October 2026

Tree fields in December can be muddy, cold and further from the car park than you’d think. A little preparation makes the trip easier.

Checklist

  • Wellies or waterproof boots. Fields are often muddy.
  • Warm, waterproof layers, plus gloves. Gloves also protect your hands if you’re carrying a prickly spruce.
  • A tape measure and your ceiling height (see our size guide).
  • An old sheet, blanket or tarpaulin to protect your car.
  • Straps or rope if the tree is going on a roof rack.
  • Payment. Most farms take cards, but a few smaller farms prefer cash. If the farm says, it’ll be on its own website.
  • Your booking confirmation, if the farm uses time slots.
  • Snacks and a flask, unless the farm has a café.

Before you set off

Check the farm’s opening times and booking rules on its own website. Ask about dogs if you want to bring yours, and check whether paths are suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Many farms are working fields, so access varies. Our farm pages show any of this the farm publishes.
